Girls Make Games

Girls Make Games visited Red Storm Entertainment for a studio tour and panel discussion with female game developers. The devs ranged in experience from engineering, production, and programming, to game design. They shared their own childhood experiences with video games, and the path they took to get into the games industry. The girls asked questions and discussed the game they are working on at camp. The girls ended their visit with a spirited game of Rayman Legends in the User Research Lab.

Girls Make Games is an international series of summer camps, with a location here in the Research Triangle of North Carolina. GMG teaches girls, age 8-17, how to design and program their own video game. The girls work in teams, grouped by age, to execute each project. By the end of the 3 week summer camp, participants will have a fully functioning game demo. The teams also develop a pitch, for the chance to advance to “Demo Day.” The winning team from National Demo Day will launch a Kickstarter campaign to have their game published.
